Every child has the potential to overachieve. It is our goal to provide individualized educational programs that recognize the unique values, needs, and talents of our youth. We hope to assist a child in discovering who they are so they can develop and nurture their own ideas and, from that, express their own opinions. We are committed to tailoring our methods to the needs of each child so that all learners get constructive feedback in an environment which fosters confidence and success.
What can a good tutor do for your child?
A tutor can give your child one-on-one attention that could mean the difference between developing a lifelong learner and a disengaged, unmotivated student. They can also provide individualized curriculum based on your child’s learning style, strengths and weaknesses. This kind of individualized attention is seldom found in a typical classroom setting. A child’s skill set is constantly growing as they advance in school and it is important that they maintain a pace commensurate with their ability. This builds confidence and self-esteem while increasing the child’s overall school experience and desire to learn.
Why are certified teachers important?
Some tutors are not qualified to teach in a public or private classroom because they are not certified. Effective tutors will be certified in education and have received extensive training in elementary curriculum, child psychology, assessment, and positive reinforcement. A current Virginia certification means that a teacher is up to date on the latest knowledge, techniques and practices to effectively diagnose and overcome a student’s learning challenges. The founder and president of Overachievers, Nancy V. Rowles, is certified to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds undergraduate, graduate and specialist degrees in Education, Educational Psychology/Gifted Education, Educational Leadership and Elementary Curriculum Development. All teachers at Overachievers are, at a minimum, certified to teach in the Commonwealth.
